Features and Properties

Our Stainless Steel 440C Bar is a high-carbon martensitic stainless steel offering moderate corrosion resistance. This grade is hardened excellently in terms of strength, and the capability for high levels of hardness is achieved and maintained; therefore, it is ideally fit for applications where wear resistance is the principal concern.

Though of a nature that causes it to air harden, preheating combined with postweld treatment at a temperature of 1350–1400 °F and slow cooling can eliminate the hardening center. Temperatures below 1700°F should be avoided during hot work. The bar can be cold-worked without any difficulty into the desired shapes and properties.
